Still, it’s important to note that these two models compete in different segments, and they’re certainly not identical twins. Our 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vs. E-Class comparison breaks down all the details so you can make the right choice.

C-Class vs E-Class: Trims and Engines

The 2023 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is offered in three different trim levels, one of which includes upgrades from Mercedes-AMG®. The E-Class also has an AMG® model, but its lineup includes four trim levels total.

The main differences between these trim levels concern the equipment found under the hood. Let’s take a look at each model’s engine lineup so you can see how things break down across the lineup.

  • The base-level C-Class and the base-level E-Class both come equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. In each model, this powertrain delivers 255 horsepower.
  • The C-Class is only available with one other engine: a handcrafted AMG® 2.0L inline-4 turbo that provides 402 horsepower. It comes equipped in the AMG® model that we mentioned earlier.
  • The E-Class, for its part, is available with two different engine upgrades. The first is a 6-cylinder setup that offers up to 362 horsepower. The final option, from AMG®, delivers 429 horsepower—and that means it’s the most powerful option in this comparison.

C-Class vs. E-Class: Fuel Economy

As you’ve seen above, the E-Class is available with more power than the C-Class. Still, power probably isn’t the only thing you’re considering as you shop for a new luxury sedan. If efficiency is important to you, you should be aware that the base-level C-Class uses fuel more slowly than the base-level E-Class. See for yourself:
