Mercedes-Benz Gives G-Class a Proper Send Off

It didn't matter whether you needed the tenacious power to get where your adventurous spirit led you or wanted the personal power and perhaps prestige that came with it... hardcore  off-road vehicles were once a very hot commodity. Operative word: Once. Now, these cars are seen more as part of a bygone era. The Hummer, as well as the Land Rover and even the Land Cruiser have all bid us ado. And the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is about to, as well. But as to be expected of any luxury Tri-Star, it will go out on a high note.

Mercedes-Benz has just announced the release of two special-editions to commemorate the long success of the hard-core off-road G-Class: the BA3 Final Edition (based on the short-wheelbase G-Wagon) and the Edition Select (with a long wheelbase).

The BA3 Final Edition gets a healthy boost of aesthetic upgrades to further emphasize its position in the range. These include: body-matching flared wheel arches, 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels, and 265/60 R 18 tire size, running boards, spare wheel cover with a stainless steel three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz star, AMG radiator grill in a three-louvre design, and chrome headlights, among others.

In addition to striking good looks, the BA3 Final Edition also gains a handful of exciting comfort/convenience features...all of which come standard. They are an electric sliding/tilting sunroof, metallic paintwork, rear mud flaps, carbon-fiber-inspired inserts in the protective strips, and ultra-sonic reversing aid, and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Inside, this painstaking attention to detail prevails in everything from superior seat comfort to a chrome luggage compartment sill panel etched with "Mercedes-Benz".

The Mercedes-Benz Edition Select comes exclusively in G500 spec with a 5.5-liter V8 engine. The BA3 Final Edition, by comparison, can also be had as a G350 with Blue Tec diesel six. To distinguish the two models, Mercedes-Benz gave the Edition Select G-Class body-colored fender flares, an AMG grille, 18-inch alloy wheels, a gorgeous black leather interior accented by black designo floor mats with  porcelain edging, a designo wood trim finished in black piano lacquer, ambient lighting, and a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system. In addition, the Edition Select G-Class also gets added safety features. For example: NECK-PRO luxury head restraints.
